What is Art Therapy: Canadian Art Therapy Association links

Our artworks, like our dreams, often contain symbols of our conscious and unconscious thoughts, feelings, and emotons. This is revealed to us in the process. Meanngs can change as our understanding and awareness increases.
You are the owner and expert of your own experience & story. The art is always explored in that context, intuitively, reflectivley, and collaboratively with the art therapist as guide.
it is a process we can trust.
about

Art Therapy (counselling psychotherapy) uses our
creativity, insight, & imagination
to process life experience that can leave us feeling
depleted, drained, aching & conflicted.
Creative endeavers are generally
therapeutic in themseles.
They can provide us with the space
to relax, shift our focus, dabble & play,
or simply
give ourselves a break.
In Art therapy, we take this further.
We use our inate creative energy to explore
our throughts, feelings, emotions or to navigate our the inner landscape.
Whatever we are internally working on (grief, loss, trauma, depression, anxiety, fear, pain, sadness)
will come through
in the art & the artmaking process.
It becomes the avenue
to explore & work
through it.
Art made can be more profoundly significant & beautiful
because of the deeper meanings in it...
symbolic of and connected
to our own personal life, our experiences,
our passages & journey.
Our story.
Your therapist will work with you collaboratively
to guide & support you
in this reflective, intuitive
inner process.
